Q & A

What is cabinet refacing?

You'll find various forms of refacing among contractors providing this type of service. We define refacing as replacement of door and drawer fronts, and full refinishing of cabinet boxes, frames, and related surfaces.- no generic stick on laminates. This gives everything at the face of your kitchen a brand new, high end look and feel with infinite customization possibilities.

Why reface vs. paint or replace?

There is a right solution for every unique situation.

Cabinet painting is a quick, low cost option, ideal as a temporary solution where cabinet color is the primary concern. Outdated layout, door style, and cabinet configurations remain the same. This can serve its purpose as a quick, budget refresh.

Full, tear out remodels may be necessary if cabinet boxes are in especially rough condition, or if much larger changes are desired/ required. This will be among the most costly options, and will typically have the longest timeframe start to finish.

We feel that for most situations, cabinet refacing with additional enhancements is the ideal choice. It offers a more complete update with far more options when compared to cabinet painting, and cuts down on the high cost and timeframe of a full tear out. In short, refacing can offer an entirely new look and feel at a reasonable price point.

Do you offer cabinet painting with existing doors/ drawers?

Our goal is to create kitchen spaces that look, feel, and most importantly, last like brand new. In keeping with this goal, we only offer kitchen renewals with new door and drawer fronts.

What are your doors made of?

The majority of our clients choose maple frame with HDF center panels for paint grade doors. This offers an ideal blend of quality and value. We have many additional options to fit clients needs. Stain grade doors can be selected in a wide variety of wood species and stain colors. We also source thermofoil and 5-peice laminate doors for a high quality, budget friendly option.

What brand of finish products do you use?

We believe in using only the best products available. All of our finishes are Renner Woodcoatings from Italy. This is a truly industrial grade, high quality finish that will stand the test of time. No off the shelf, big box products here.

Can I choose any color?

Yes! Unlike most manufactured cabinet lines offering a narrow palette of colors, you can choose literally any color you like. We generally use Sherwin Williams colors, but can have our Renner product color matched to any major color brand.

Do you install countertops or backsplash?

We personally specialize in everything cabinetry, and have a great local contact we can refer for counters and backsplash. We refer rather than subcontract so you can get the best price with no general contractor up-charging.

Do you re-stain cabinets?

We generally do not recommend re-staining existing cabinetry as the results can be mixed. We do offer stained cabinetry in the form of new, custom cabinets. For example, if you would like an accent island or section of cabinets to be a specific wood species and stain, we can source and install these as part of your kitchen renewal. Two-tone wood and solid color kitchens offer a warm, contemporary, and elegant look.

How long does your process take?

This greatly depends of the scope of work in your kitchen renewal. For basic refacing in a mid-size kitchen, we generally allow 2 weeks. When bigger changes are made such as layout modification, custom trim-work, lighting, etc, it can take a bit longer. Even our larger projects are generally completed in 3-4 weeks, far more concise than a tear out remodel.

Where are you located, and what areas do you serve?

We are based in McHenry IL and serve a wide range of surrounding communities. Generally, we try to stay within an hour drive of our shop to ensure we can complete your project efficiently. Clients outside of this range may incur an additional travel charge and extended timeframe on their project due to travel time.

Who will be doing the actual work in my home?

We are a small, owner operated business. We (Jeremy and Erik) will be involved in every aspect of your project, and will be the ones you see day to day completing the work. This ensures the quality and craftmanship is consistently excellent.
